Murad directs KU VC to implement NAB guidelines
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the vice chancellor of University of Karachi (KU) to implement the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) guidelines so that no trace of corruption could be found in the prestigious educational institution of the country.
The CM issued the directive while presiding over a meeting on the varsity’s affairs. The meeting was attended by KU Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Ajmal Khan, Principal Secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary University & Boards Riazuddin Qureshi and other officers.
To a query of the CM, the VC said NAB had issued 49 guiding points to the varsity to stop corruption and ensure transparency. He added that of the 49 points, 37 had been implemented while work on the remaining 12 was in progress.
Shah directed Dr Khan to take action against ineligible and inefficient officers belonging to both the teaching and non-teaching sides, and have efficient staff in place of them so that KU could flourish.
It may be noted here that at present there were 43,000 students studying at KU, which makes it one of the leading universities of the country. The CM said that he would extend all possible support to the VC to improve the overall standards of education and administration of the varsity.
Shah also expressed concern over the state of the Benazir Bhutto Chair in KU which was vacant since the last one year. He directed the VC to appoint its chairperson purely on merit so that the chair could start research work.
Universities can help and guide the governments by carrying out research in different sectors such as economy, technology, and law and order, the CM said, adding that with the help of such research, better policies could be framed. The CM assured the VC that the government would help the varsity overcome its financial and administrative problems.
