Jimmy Engineer’s artwork displayed at Colombo gallery

LAHORE: A joint exhibition of artwork of world renowned Pakistani artist and social worker Jimmy Engineer and his upcoming Sri Lankan contemporary art protégé Mueen Saheed has got underway in a colourful manner at Billari Art Gallery in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Jimmy Engineer and art narrative expressionist Mueen Saheed have jointly organised the art exhibition which is scheduled to continue for about a fortnight. While interacting with the artists, art lovers and people from other walks of life at the inaugural ceremony, according to a message received here from Colombo, Jimmy Engineer talked about his creative work, life and relationship with Sri Lanka to which he is paying yet another goodwill visit presently. He also availed the opportunity to project and highlight soft, positive, progressive and forward looking image of Pakistan and its people emphatically saying Pakistan is a great country with great people great culture and great artists.

Jimmy Engineer paintings are in private collections in almost every part of the world. As a matter of record, ever since he turned into a professional artist in1976, Jimmy Engineer has so far created more than 3000 paintings, 1000 calligraphies, 1500 drawings. Additionally, about 700,000 prints of his paintings are also in private collections in more than 60 countries around the globe. He has held more than 80 art exhibitions in Pakistan and number of foreign countries, has led over 100 walks for noble causes and has also organised more than 140 fun, food and awareness programmes for the Special Children including handicapped and mentally retarded, orphans, deaf and blind children in Karachi and Lahore and also some in Sri Lanka as well.

Mueen Saheed is a professional jeweler turned artist mainly owning to his deep passion for art and in a short period has painted over 500 paintings and his recent work on display at Billari Art Gallery includes paintings on gender violence and saving the oceans.

It is pertinent to mention here that a painting of International Architectural Compositions by Jimmy Engineer is already on permanent display at the prestigious National Art Museum in Beijing, China since March 2018.

His two pencil drawings have also been recently selected for being put on permanent display at the Royal Ontario Museum of Canada in Ontario shortly. Jimmy Engineer has thus become the first-ever Pakistani artist whose creative artwork is on permanent display in two museums in Beijing, China, and Ontario, Canada. He is obviously quite happy over having earned this singular honour and distinction for himself and more important for his motherland Pakistan.
