Islamabad : The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rains in the country, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, for today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday) amid flood and landslide warning.
According to a spokesman for the PMD, the rainy spell will be caused a westerly wave, which is likely to enter Balochistan early Sunday before gripping parts of the country.
Under its influence, widespread rains accompanied by thunderstorm and snowfalls over the hills with few moderate to isolated heavy rainfall coupled with gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit- Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from Sunday to Monday.
Also, widespread rains coupled with thunderstorm and snowfalls over the hills with isolated heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds will fall in Balochistan and at scattered places in Sindh's Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Hyderabad divisions and at isolated places in Karachi division on Sunday.
The weatherman warned that heavy rainfall could generate flash floods in nullahs and riverine of Balochistan's Quetta, Zhob, Sibbi, and Kalat divisions on Sunday and could trigger landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Malakand and Hazara divisions, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
He asked the relevant authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures during the period to minimise damage to public life and property.
There is also a high likelihood of rains falling in different parts of the country later in the month.
