KARACHI: The first $25,000 squash event of the year open to foreigner players would be held at Mushaf Squash Complex of Jinnah Stadium, Aabpara, Islamabad, from October 1-6.
The title of the event is Chief of Air Staff International Squash Championship, the qualification rounds would be played on October 1 and 2 in which 16 players including four locals would participate.
The main draw would be held from October 3-6 in which 16 players including eight seeds, four qualifiers, and one wildcard would take part. The closing date for entries is September 4th.
This is the second $25,000 event to be held in Pakistan. The first was held last October since 2007 which was won by Egyptian Omar Abdel Meguid by defeating Aamir Atlas Khan in the final.
“We received overwhelming response from the world squash community for successfully holding this $25,000 event last year. We are hoping for the same this year as well and expecting to receive a good number of international entries,” said Secretary Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Amir Nawaz.
He added that the Professional Squash Association (PSA) has awarded them two PSA-25 events this year. “One of them is to be held in Islamabad in October and we would try to hold the second in Karachi in November,” added Amir.
