AWP expresses solidarity with women
LAHORE: The Awami Workers Party (AWP) has expressed solidarity and support to the women struggling for equal rights and social justice in Pakistan and around the world. In their message on International Women’s Day, the AWP leaders through a press release expressed their resolve to revive the revolutionary and radical vision of socialist feminist leaders like Clara Zetkin who called for the liberation of women, transformation of economy, society and social relationships.
The party is of the view that women and marginalised communities cannot be free unless the inter-linked structures of violence and exploitation are dismantled, the AWP press release stated. It said the labour of millions of women was exploited daily at homes, factories, farms and in offices, robbing them of the opportunities, time and resources.
Voicing concern over the deaths of women around the globe, the AWP leaders said that countless women did daily from a lack of basic medical and reproductive health care. “We resolve to struggle for a society in which labour is fairly distributed, women are fairly paid; where women can exist and move free of fear, the AWP leaders said.
