Anti-domestic violence cell being set up: IG
LAHORE : Inspection General of Police, Punjab, Amjad Javed Saleemi has said that a special cell will be established at the Central Police Office for quickly addressing the complaints regarding domestic violence.
He stated this while chairing a session held in the wake of International Women’s Day at the Central Police Office. To minimise domestic violence incidence and ensure protection to women is a priority of Punjab Police, he said, adding that directions had been issued in all districts for quick resolution of complaints of domestic violence. He warned that delay and negligence by the officers and officials in this regard would not be tolerated.
He said a special cell was being established in Central Police Office, Lahore, so that the incidents of domestic violence might be monitored and justice could be ensured to the aggrieved women along with taking strict action against the accused. The IG directed the all RPOs and DPOs to personally supervise the cases of domestic abuses in their districts and regions and submit reports on a monthly-basis at the CPO, Lahore.

The increasing trend of women’s participation in Police Department shows their trust in the department and there is no gender discrimination in the department, he said, adding that for the first time in Punjab Police, woman DPOs in three districts, three SPs Investigations and 82 women in sensitive institutions like CTD were working side by side with male colleagues. He said that women were equal in intelligence, ability and professionalism with men today and especially in Police Department the role of women was plausible because the performance of duties in the department was different from duties in other departments.
“I am proud of the women who are working with bravery and boldness in Police Department,” he said. Around 4,269 women are working in different branches of Punjab Police in which are 13 SPs, six ASPs, 33 DSPs, one additional director, Computer Bureau, one assistant director, seven psychologists, 29 inspectors, 26 assistants, three stenographers, 380 sub-inspectors, 228 lady traffic wardens, one senior clerk, 12 junior clerks, 85 ASIs, 1,53 head constables, 3,209 constables and 82 women corporals in CTD.
