Gangster wanted in more than 170 cases arrested

Rangers on Thursday claimed to have arrested a suspected Lyari-based gangster for his alleged involvement in more than 170 criminal cases, including target killings of political workers in Karachi.

According to the spokesperson of the paramilitary force, the suspect identified as Waqas, alias Manjan, was arrested during an intelligence-based raid conducted in the Nabi Bakhsh area of Garden. He said the suspect was associated with a Lyari gang.

The spokesperson said the suspect was involved in more than 170 cases of crime, including target killings, extortion and robberies in different parts of the city.

He said the suspect had killed Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Ali Burhan and injured another, namely Waqas Ali, in February 2012 on the orders of a Lyari gang commander named Ali.

He added that the suspect was also wanted for the murder of MQM worker Gulraiz, alias Chamber, on the orders of Sunni Tehreek unit incharge Imran in the Jodia Bazaar area on June 22, 2012.

The spokesperson said arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspect’s possession, adding that he was later handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.

Ten more held

Rangers soldiers also claimed to have arrested 10 other suspects during their ongoing raids across the city. According to the spokesperson, nine suspects were arrested during raids conducted in Zaman Town, Korangi, Madina Colony, Baldia Town, Garden and Nabi Bakhsh areas.

The suspects were identified as Imran Ali, alias Sahib, Arsalan, alias Munna, Ghulam Mustafa, alias Irfan, Nasrullah, alias Rauf, Ghulam Hussain, alias Baba Jani, Talha Imtiaz, Naushad Ahmed, Ubaid and Nehal. They are accused of being involved in robberies and other street crime.

In another raid, the Rangers arrested a suspect named Saeedur Rehman from Quaidabad. The spokesperson said the suspect was involved in crimes committed while wearing a police uniform.

He said arms and ammunition were recovered from all the suspects’ possession, adding that they were later handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.
