China International Cooperation Centre established at KMU

PESHAWAR: The Nanjing Medical University (NMU) China has established a collaboration centre for global health at the Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar.

The centre is expected to solve major scientific issues in the field of global health and jointly cultivate innovative talents with an international perspective and the capacity of global health governance.

It has been inaugurated in the light of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Arshad Javaid, and Prof Dr Jianming Wang, Dean School of Public Health, NMU.

Besides others, Health Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan, Pro-VC KMU Prof. Dr Jawad Ahmad, KMU Registrar Prof. Dr Muhammad Saleem Gandapur, Dean Public Health KMU Prof Dr Ziaul Haq, officials of the Health Department and faculty were present at the occasion.

According to the MoU, both the parties would carry out academic exchange activities regularly, including holding academic workshops and seminars.

The universities will cooperate to apply for grants, implement researches, and jointly publish scientific papers. The KMU & NMU will select excellent faculties and provide them with short-term training or continuing education opportunities at each other’s school.

Another major part of the MoU is inauguration and establishment of the China International Cooperation Centre (CICC) for environment and human health overseas research base at the KMU.

It is worth mentioning that the CICC is the national level science and technology cooperation base. It was established in December 2016. The centre is focusing on international cooperation and research on the environment and human health.

The CICC was initiated with five internationally known universities and institutions. These included Harvard School of Public Health, Dartmouth College, Duke University, UCLA, and NIEHS.

For better development, the 13th Five-Year Development Plan (2016-2020) for the CICC was formulated and approved by the academic committee on April 21, 2017.
