‘Illegal trade of organs transplantation won’t be tolerated’
LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar Thursday directed to set up special counters for kidney transplant in teaching hospitals.
The chief minister issued these directions while presiding over a meeting of Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority (PHOTA). He directed to set up special counters for kidney transplant in teaching hospitals and the meeting also decided to establish regional offices of PHOTA. He made it clear that the illegal trade of organs transplant would not be tolerated and legal action would be initiated against the criminals. He directed to early dispose of the cases relating to organs transplant adding that it related to human lives and no file should be stopped without any reason.
Delay is unacceptable in cases relating to organs transplantation, he added. He said that organs donation is a noble cause because human life is the most precious. The organs transplantation should be totally safe and every possible effort should be made in this regard, he added.
Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said that necessary amendment was being made to the law as the same was required to make the organs transplantation process easy and possible. Health Adviser Hanif Pitafi announced donating his organs after death.
