PESHAWAR: A two-day summit on the environment – Eco summit 2019 - commenced at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) here on Wednesday to bring academia industry and government at one platform for introducing innovative green technologies and finding indigenous solutions for the sustainable environment.
The summit is organised by the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) UET, Peshawar, in collaboration with National Bank of Pakistan, British Council and other organisations.
UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iftikhar was the chief guest. He said climate change was showing a significant impact globally on people’s livelihood and the ecosystems.
“The rapid change in climate has also put serious challenges to the national development of Pakistan,” he said and urged the stakeholders including government, industry academia and civil society to come to a united forum and raise the scale of awareness on the climate sensitization.
Saima Raheem, regional head of the National Bank of Pakistan (North), also spoke on the occasion and assured all support to the UET Peshawar for introducing environment-related initiatives.
She said the NBP also planted 200,000 plants under the “Clean and Green Pakistan drive.” The official also planted a sapling at UET Peshawar during the plantation drive.
