Illegal weekly makeshift market closed over security

LAHORE: An illegal weekly makeshift market established near the Shalimar Gardens was closed this week for not having security arrangements by the government.

Chief Minister Task Force Convener on Prices Akram Chaudhry visited the Shalimar and China Scheme area on Sunday and ordered immediate closure of the illegal weekly makeshift in the Shalimar area. He deplored the situation at China Scheme Model Bazaar and directed the officials concerned to to improve the situation at the bazaar.

Akram Chaudhry said that the survey of illegal makeshift markets had been completed and its report submitted to the chief minister for further action. He stressed the need for removing all the illegal weekly makeshift markets in the City. He said the administration did not establish these makeshift markets so no security arrangements were made for them. He said that either these bazaars would be regularised under the law or they would be closed permanently.

Earlier, during his visit to Shadman weekly makeshift market, he fined stall holders on overcharging and not displaying their stall allotment cards. He said that in future the stalls which would violate the rules and regulations should be sealed and canceled, besides blacklisting their owners from the weekly makeshift markets.

This week again a number of vegetables, including cauliflower, cabbage, radish, brinjal and green chilli, were not sold in the weekly makeshift markets on account of wrong pricing issue. Rotten vegetables and fruits were sold at A-grade rates while A-grade items were not sold in any of the makeshift markets of the City.

This week, official price of potato was stable at Rs8 to Rs10 per kg, while in the open market it was sold at Rs20 to Rs25 per kg.

Onion rate was increased by Re1 per kg and fixed at Rs18 to Rs20 per kg but lower quality onion was sold at Rs20 per kg. The price of tomato remained stable at Rs103 to Rs110 per kg but it was not available in the makeshift markets.

Garlic, local, rate was raised and fixed at Rs112 to Rs118 per kg but was not available there. Garlic, Chinese, rate was increased by Rs 17 per kg and fixed at Rs155 to Rs162 per kg but sold at Rs180 to Rs200 per kg.

Ginger, Chinese, price was stable at Rs155 to Rs162 per kg but sold at Rs200 per kg. Garlic, Thai, rate was fixed at Rs126 to Rs130 per kg but sold at Rs160 per kg.

Brinjal rate was increased by Rs11 per kg and fixed at Rs49 to Rs51 per kg but not sold on account of wrong pricing. Cucumber, farm, rate was fixed at Rs34 to Rs36 per kg but sold at Rs40 per kg.

Mongray price was raised by Re1 per kg and fixed at Rs49 to Rs51 per kg but sold at Rs60 to Rs80 per kg. Bitter gourd rate was stable at Rs117 to Rs122 per kg but was not available on pricing issue.

Lemon, Chinese, rate was fixed at Rs49 to Rs51 per kg but sold at Rs60 per kg. Methi rate was increased by Rs4 per kg and fixed at Rs27 to Rs29 per kg but sold at Rs30 per kg.

Both Zucchini, long, rate was fixed at Rs29 to Rs31 per kg but sold at Rs40 per kg. Zucchini, farm, rate was fixed at Rs39 to Rs41 per kg but sold at Rs 50 per kg.

Cauliflower rate was increased by Rs6 per kg and fixed at Rs19 to Rs21 per kg while cabbage rate was raised by Rs 4 per kg and fixed at Rs17 to Rs19 per kg, both not sold there.

Pumpkin rate was fixed Rs54 to Rs56 per kg but sold at Rs80 per kg. Turnip price was increased by Rs6 per kg and fixed at Rs14 to Rs16 per kg but sold at Rs 20 per kg.

Green chili rate was increased by Rs 14 per kg and fixed at Rs136 to Rs140 to per kg but not sold due to pricing issue while the makeshift markets it was sold at Rs160 per kg. Capsicum rate was fixed at Rs78 to Rs82 per kg but lower quality capsicum was sold at Rs 100 per kg. Pea rate was stable at Rs28 to Rs30 per kg but rain-affected pea was sold at Rs30 per kg. Radish was increased by Rs3 per kg and fixed at Rs11 to Rs13 per kg, but sold at Rs 20 per kg.

Carrot rate was raised by Rs2 per kg and fixed at Rs16 to Rs18 per kg, but sold at Rs20 per kg. Mustard leaf rate was fixed at Rs24 to Rs26 per kg, but sold at Rs 30 per kg. Coriander rate was fixed at Rs30 per kg, but sold at Rs100 per kg. Beans were sold at Rs200 per kg against the official price of Rs160 per kg.

The prices of different varieties of apples were fixed at Rs78 to Rs132 per kg, but sold at Rs100 to Rs180 per kg. Banana, A- category, rate was stable at Rs64 to Rs67 per dozen but it was not available there while B-category banana rate was fixed at Rs49 to Rs51 per dozen, but sold at Rs 65 per dozen.

Musmai rate was fixed at Rs88 to Rs92 per dozen but sold at Rs80 to Rs120 per dozen. The rates for different varieties of citrus fruits were fixed at Rs59 to Rs102 per dozen but sold at Rs60 to Rs150 per dozen. Sweet potato rate was fixed at Rs34 to Rs36 per kg but not sold on pricing issue.

Guava rate was fixed at Rs49 to Rs51 per kg but sold at Rs60 per kg. Grape fruit rate was fixed at Rs17 to Rs19 per piece but sold at Rs15 to Rs20 per piece.

Papaya rate was fixed at Rs92 to Rs97 per kg but sold at Rs100 per kg. Coconut whole rate was fixed at Rs136 to Rs142 per piece but sold at Rs150 per piece.

Strawberry, A quality, rate was fixed at Rs184 to Rs192 per kg but sold at Rs250 per kg while B-quality strawberry rate was fixed at Rs88 to Rs92 per kg but sold at Rs200 per kg.

Date price was fixed at Rs145 to Rs152 per kg but sold at Rs 300 to Rs350 per kg.
