Three dead in road accident

MULTAN: Three people, including two women, were killed when a motorcycle collided with a tractor-trolley near Sikandri Nala on Sunday.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Ihsan Shahid, three persons, including two women and a 13-year-old girl, were riding a motorcycle when it collided with a tractor-trolley. As a result, motorcyclist and two women died on the spot while teenage girl sustained multiple injuries and she was shifted to the Nishtar Hospital.

‘Rains to benefit wildlife in desert areas’: The recent rainy spells will benefit wildlife in the drought hit desert areas where the water ponds had shrunk immensely.

Talking here on Sunday, Wildlife Bahawalpur Deputy Director Mian Abbas said that the desert area was comprised of over 6,600,000 acres and it sprawls from Fort Abbas to Sadiqabad. He said that drought in deserted areas had affected breeding of the wildlife. The wildlife species had to suffer due to unavailability of water, he told. There were hundreds of minor ponds located in deserted area, he maintained. Due to lack of rains in past, the ponds got dried and it affected wildlife, he stated. The recent rainy spells in February would help improve number of wildlife in near future as it would offer better environment for breeding of different species, he added. Species were found in the areas, including jackals, foxes, wolf, great Indian bustard, grey francolin and many others, he added.

‘Strategy evolved to redress complaints received thru Portal’: The City Traffic Police have evolved a strategy to swiftly redress complaints received through the Pakistan Citizen Portal.

Chief Traffic Officer Huma Naseeb ordered the officers to take urgent steps in case of receipt of any complaint. She said that the DSP concerned would ensure prompt action against traffic related issues. She said that the City Traffic Police officials would be deputed wherever need arises. The CTO also warned that strict action would be taken against the officials if they were found absent from their duty points. DSP Headquarters Attia Naheed, DSP Muhammad Tariq and other officers were also present.

Power pilferers caught: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has caught 1,041 power pilferers and imposed Rs 34.4 million fine on them during February across the region.

According to a spokesman Jamshed Niazi, Mepco teams also lodged cases against 383 power pilferers with various police stations.

He said that the Mepco teams along with the district task force and police were conducting raids against power pilferers without any discrimination across the region.
