Misuse of powers: NAB KP starts inquiry against Pervaiz, Mushtaq Ghani
PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has started inquiry against Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani and former Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan for allegedly misusing their powers.
Well-placed sources said that the NAB KP had begun the inquiry against Pervaiz Khattak for misusing his powers as chief minister KP, Mushtaq Ghani as Minister for Higher Education and Amjad Ali Khan as the chief secretary during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s previous stint in power in the establishment of the Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Haripur.
The sources said that Secretary Higher Education had sought Rs3 million funds for sending a delegation to Austria to discuss the establishment of the Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology at the University of Haripur.
However, the Secretary Planning and Development and Secretary Finance had opposed the establishment of the new institute at such a huge cost.
It said that despite their opposition, the former chief minister, former minister for higher education and former chief secretary approved the establishment of the Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology.
The sources said that project director Dr Nasser Ali Khan was also appointed against merit and the rules on the directive of the then Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, who is now federal defence minister.
The sources said the NAB has initiated the inquiry against Pervaiz Khattak, Mushtaq Ghani and Amjad Ali Khan for misuse of authority and for appointing the project director Dr Nasser Ali Khan in violation of merit.
