Mahatir captures under-14 tennis title

KARACHI: Mahatir Mohammad clinched the under-14 title of the Boulevard Mall National Seniors/Juniors Tennis Championship at Hyderabad Gymkhana on Thursday.

Mahatir defeated M Ali Khattak 6-1, 6-1 in the final to claim the title.Meanwhile, Saad Baloch thrashed Nadir Bachani 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-finals of men’s singles.

Similarly, M Ali beat Houd Azher 7-5, 6-4 and Hasheesh Kumar won against Samad Areejo 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals of juniors 18.

In the semi-finals of under-10 singles, Abubaker Talha from Lahore beat Farjam Sajid 4-1, 4-4 and Ameer Mazari overpowered Dhuraf Das 5-3, 4-2, 4-2.

Rashid Malik from Lahore defeated Aslam Chohan 6-2 (retired) in the semi-finals of 50 singles.In the under-14 doubles first round, the pair of Huzaifa Almani and Ibrahim Kazi smashed the duo of Umair Rajpr and M Saif 6-0, 6-0 while the pair of Sanullah and Ahmed Araeeri defeated the duo of M Ahmed and M Uzamil Bhandhi 6-3, 6-1.

Rafi Dar Bari and Shabbir Gul beat the duo of M Ashrif Farooqui and Mehboob Waheed 6-1, 6-1 in the round robin of 40 doubles.The finals and the closing ceremony of the championship will be held on Friday (today).

Station Commander Brigadier Hafeezullah Khan will be the chief guest and Boulevard Mall Chief Executive Humayiun Barkat will be the guest of honour at the closing ceremony.
