The prospective 27-kilo-meter-long BRT Peshawar project has become the PTI-led government’s obsession; the government considers its completion a political milestone. The previous PTI-led KP government, in view of the July 2018 general elections, had set preposterous dates for its completion without consulting the contractors working on the project. The then KP chief minister set March 23, 2018 as the inauguration date and later shifted to June 2018, but the project was nowhere near completion. After winning the July 2018 election, the PTI relaxed for some time.
Now, the incumbent KP minister has set March 23, 2019 as the day of inauguration of the BRT. However, the ground realities speak otherwise. I wonder why the PTI government is in a hurry to wrap up the project. If the project is completed and made accessible to the public by December this year it will still be a laudable accomplishment of the PTI.
