Loud noise damages hearing

While hearing loss can be part of the aging process, it can also be caused by exposure to loud noise. When is a noise too loud? The American Academy of Otolaryngology says hearing loss may occur if:

* Noise is so loud that it hurts your ears.
* Your ears are ringing from the noise.
* You have a hard time hearing for a few hours after exposure to the noise.
