Milli Yakjehti Council (MYC) leaders have warned against conspiracies to change the Islamic character of the Constitution, saying all attempts to tamper with the Constitution would be resisted with full might.
The warning was issued by the MYC executive body meeting chaired by MYC deputy chief and Chief of Tanzeem-e-Islami Hafiz Aakif Saeed on Tuesday. MYC, an alliance of six religious parties, condemned the killing Ismailis in Karachi, terming it an act of enemies of Pakistan.
MYC Secretary General Liaqat Bloch in his address said Pakistan was created in the name of Islam but there were conspiracies to change its basic ideology. JI deputy chief Asadullah Bhutto, representing the Sindh chapter of the body, said there were attempts from certain quarters to tamper with the Objectives Resolution which must be checked well in time.
Jamaat al Dawa’s central leader Hafiz Abdur Rahman Makki said sectarianism was not the problem in Pakistan. The real issue was the foreign interference against which a strong voice must be raised from all quarters. The chief guest at the meeting, Deewan Azmat Syed Muhammad Chishti, said handing over the education sector to the provinces had given rise to serious problems concerning the education syllabi and there were complaints of the induction of anti-constitution and secular material in the courses.
