JI chief to visit Afghanistan next month

PESHAWAR: Accepting the Afghan government invitation, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Senator Sirajul Haq on Thursday announced to visit Afghanistan along with a party delegation next month.
“There should be people-to-people contacts. We should see the interest of the Afghan people rather of one group,” the JI chief said at a press conference held at Al-Markaz-i-Islami, the party’s headquarters.
Sirajul Haq said that the delegation would be leaving for Afghanistan in mid-June on the invitation by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. “Brotherly relations and trust is necessary between the two Muslim neighbouring countries for peace in the region,” he said.However, the JI chief vowed that hurdles in the establishment of peace in Afghanistan have been removed after the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan.
After the withdrawal of US-led NATO forces, he said, situation had completely changed in the region and it was time for both the countries to increase their efforts for restoring peace in the region.
“We don’t want to have relations with one group in Afghanistan. We want relationship with all people of Afghanistan,” he added. “The people from both sides should strengthen their relationship. The stronger and peaceful Afghanistan is in the interest of Pakistan,” Sirajul Haq said.
