Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting on the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project here on Tuesday. Project Director Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed gave a briefing on the latest situation of construction work on the project.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that commuting between the twin cities would be made comfortable for people through the Metro Bus Service and all segments of society would benefit from it. He said that the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Project will soon be inaugurated. However, no final date was given for inauguration of the project by the chief minister as well as the commissioner.
The chief minister said that the inauguration would be a happy moment for the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The project would provide comfortable, economical, speedy and safe commuting facilities to the residents of the twin cities.
He said that the Metro Bus Service is an important step towards modernising transport system in the country. The chief minister directed that attention should be paid to horticulture along the Metro Bus track.
He said that the Metro Bus Project reflects his government’s priorities towards public service and “our aim is to resolve the problems of poor and middle-class people. He said that the Metro Bus Service is an excellent project for eliminating commuting problems and spending resources on people.
Punjab Home Minister Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada, Metro Bus Project Implementation Committee Chairman Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, MPs, Project Director Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed, CDA chairman and senior officials attended the meeting, whereas the Punjab chief secretary and concerned secretaries participated from the Civil Secretariat, Lahore, through video link.
