Monitoring body praises anti-polio efforts in Fata

PESHAWAR: The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), an international monitoring body for polio eradication, has commended the successful efforts for the eradication of the disease in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
According to an official handout, the board meeting was held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. The representatives from all the four provinces of Pakistan as well as Fata were invited to discuss the issues relating to polio eradication separately.
During a detailed session exclusively on polio eradication efforts in Fata, the board discussed and analysed the information and facts received from various independent sources. The participants of the meeting admitted that the accessibility had improved considerably in the last six months and improved by 56 percent.
Similarly, in the critical agencies of Khyber, South Waziristan and North Waziristan, this has been improved by 71, 21and 50 per cent, respectively.Reduction of polio cases in Fata was seen as another achievement as there has been a cut of 86 per cent in the reported cases of polio in Fata as compared to the corresponding period of last year (four months, January-April).
