LAHORE: Recording his statement with the election tribunal, Nadra Chairman Usman Yousaf Mubeen Saturday said his department had prepared the report on NA-122 with total neutrality and highest sense of responsibility.
He further told the tribunal that the forensic results of alleged rigging in PP-147 would be submitted on May 25.
Nadra Director General (Data) Muzaffar Hussain Shah told the tribunal that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) didn’t use the ink approved by them for thumb impressions in 2013 general election.
He said this during cross-examination by the PTI counsel Anees Ali Hashmi during the hearing of petition filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against the alleged rigging in NA-122.
Shah said the ECP had sent five samples of ink out of which one was approved. He said the Nadra had several reservations about the approved sample which wasn’t used in the election.
The PML-N counsel Barrister Asjad Saeed also cross-examined Shah and asked him about the condition of ink used in the general poll and the impact of hot weather on it. Shah said there was no doubt that the hot weather had affected the ink a lot.
Later, the PTI counsel sought adjournment, saying he would cross-examine the chairman after submission of Nadra report on PP-147. Accepting the plea, the court adjourned the hearing till May 25.
Talking to the media after the proceedings, Ali Ayaz Sadiq, son of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, alleged that the PTI was delaying the matter despite the presence of Nadra chairman.
He said Imran was misleading the nation and throwing “no ball after another no ball”. “It seems Imran is still waiting for a signal by the third empire,” he added.
