LAHORE: PPP suffered another setback in Punjab after its former MPA elected in 2008 general elections from Sialkot, Tahir Mehmood Hundli, joined the PTI.
Already a number of PPP notables like Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Afzal Sindhu, Bahadur Khan Sehar, Niaz Jhakker as well as provincial leaders, ticket holders of 2008 including Kamil Gujjar, Javed Alla ud Din, Rana Babar, Abbas Raan have either joined PML-N or PTI.
All the claims by PPP central Punjab leadership to strengthen party in the province seem only confined to press statements as the exodus of party loyalists since party came out of power a couple of years ago continued. Tahir Hundli was elected MPA in 2008 on PPP ticket and he was known for tabling the resolution in Punjab Assembly declaring reciting of Naat as compulsory before the commencing of session.
Hundli announced joining the PTI in the presence of Punjab PTI leadership including president Ejaz Chaudhry, Umer Dar and others. Speaking on the occasion, Tahir Hundli said the prime reason for joining the PTI was to save Pakistan. He said his decision to join the party was unconditional and he and his supporters reposed confidence in the leadership of Imran Khan.
Ejaz Chaudhry said the verdict of election tribunal regarding NA-125 had frustrated the PML-N leadership and proved the stance of PTI about rigging in last general elections. He said the PML-N leadership was busy plundering national wealth and had no concern with public woes, adding the country was facing a decline but the assets of Sharif family were swelling like anything. The PTI leadership on the occasion vehemently condemned MQM Quaid Altaf Hussein’s statement against Pakistan Army while calling for strict action against him.
