Probe all election results in Karachi, demands PTI

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Karachi chapter has demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan should examine the last general election’s polling bags and records of all constituencies in the city so that the “massive rigging” that took place could be exposed ala the case of NA-125 in Lahore.
PTI Karachi president Ali Zaidi said on Tuesday that in the 2013 general elections and later the by-polls, voters had to place thumbprints to verify their identity.
“Why doesn’t the ECP order vote verification especially when the candidate is willing to pay for it? What is the purpose of thumbprints if they won’t be used for verification?” he raised the question.
“I challenge the ECP to open the constituencies in Karachi and find out what actually happened on May 11, 2013.”
Zaidi said in light of former ECP secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan conceding that the commission had failed to conduct free and fair polls in Karachi, it is necessary to probe the results.
“If required, I will personally raise money from overseas Pakistanis to fund this exercise,” he added.
The PTI Karachi chief said those who were elected through rigging and fraud had failed to serve Karachi.
“People with fake and stolen mandates will not and cannot provide solutions to the issues facing by a megacity like Karachi.
“Only when elections are held fairly and freely will the true representatives of the people make it to the assemblies and the city’s issues will be addressed.”
Zaidi said Karachi had the capability and resources to put Pakistan on the path of economic recovery. “Its mandate must be secured and earned through a free and fair election process, not robbed.”
