First Potohar Art and Literature festival commenced at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) here on Monday.
The festival which is spreading over four days different competitions, includes Qira’at, Na’at, posters, painting, poetry, photography, debates, Punjabi Takra, singing, documentaries, ‘Bait Bazi’, dress carnival, solo performance, drama, boys sports, musical night and seminars on different issues.
The day was opened with Qira’at & Na’at competitions in the morning followed by boy’s sports, posters, painting, poetry and photography competitions. On the occasion, Hanif Abbasi, PML-N leader was the chief guest while Chairman Milaad Committee Zia Ulla Shah was the guest of honour.
Hanif Abbasi in his address, said that Qira’at and Na’at is part of our religion and culture. He said that the life of our Holy Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) is a role model for humanity. “We should forget our differences and unite together for a problem-free society, where tolerance should be the key goal,” he added. He appreciated the efforts of PMAS-AAUR administration for organizing such a colourful event and hoped that such type of competitions will be held in future as well.
He said that such healthy and positive activities are essential for curbing the trends of extremism in the society and Punjab Govt top priority is to provide maximum sports activities to the youth with latest sports facilities to set new trends in sports, he claimed. On the occasion, He also announced flood lights for University Sports ground. In the Qira’at competition, Hanzla Mushtaq, student Faculty of Sciences bagged the first position, whereas M. Ishtiaq, student of Education got second and Usman Cheema, student of Information Technology stood third. In Na’at contest, Kashif Hussain, student of Agriculture Faculty clinched first position, while Asad Ghafoor, student of Information Technology stood second and Hasina Basharat, student of Sciences Faculty got the third position.
In Poster & Painting competition, Nishat Fatima and Ifra Baig students of Sciences Faculty got first and second positions respectively while Kibeeria student of Agricultural Engineering got third position.
In ‘Mushaira’ competition, Zaid Abbasi, student of Agriculture Faculty stood first while Sidra Bibi, student of Sciences Faculty and M. Waheed, student of Information Technology obtained second and third positions, respectively.
