A contempt of court application has been filed against the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s director general parks and other officials in Sindh High Court for disobeying the Supreme Court orders on restoring the status of historical Jehangir Park.
Agha Syed Attaullah Shah had submitted that the Supreme Court had issued the restraining order to the KMC against conversion of the Jehangir Park in Saddar park and directed it to restore the status of the park and develop the same, accordingly.
He stated that a large portion of public taxes was earmarked for the development and maintenance of dozens of public parks and gardens in Karachi and for this purpose a large number of garden staff, headed by a director general parks (BPS-20) are enjoying benefits, salaries etc but despite the court orders they persistently avoided to perform their duties and complying the court directives.
The applicant sought action against the KMC officials under Contempt of the Court Ordinance for disobeying the court orders issued on April 5, 2006 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
