As summer takes a toll, citizens irked by frequent unscheduled electricity shutdowns, mainly in districts Central and East, expressed deep concern over K-Electric’s (KE) performance whereas those residing in areas experiencing prolonged outages, although sporadically, took to the streets to protest against the power utility.
Speaking to The News on Tuesday, a spokesman of the KE, however, denied it was carrying out unscheduled load shedding in any part of the city.
He added that load shedding schedules were divided in four categories, based on the highest level of recovery to the most amounts of illegal electricity connections. Those identified as low-loss areas faced no load shedding at all whereas in areas identified as medium-loss, electricity was cut off for three hours; high-loss areas witnessed six hours while those identified as very-high-loss faced not more than eight hours of power outage.
“Around 60 percent of the city is exempted from load shedding,” he claimed.
However, a resident of a low-loss area while complaining of unannounced load shedding said, “They never specify the exact fault neither the correct time required to restore the problem whenever we file a complaint.”
