KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test fast bowler Jalaluddin said on Saturday that the decision to play with seven batsmen caused the humiliating defeat against Bangladesh.
He said that Saeed Ajmal had lost his magic after changing his action and would take a lot of time to regain his confidence.
Jalal expressed surprised over the inclusion of two wicket-keepers in the playing eleven. “Playing two wicket-keepers in a match is surprising and shows that the team management has failed to digest the success of Sarfraz,” he said.
“Rizwan played well, but it is actually the ego of the team management. It did not want to play Sarfraz Ahmed in the World Cup. Sarfraz proved the team management wrong, especially coach Waqar Younis, who had insisted that he was not a good wicket-keeper batsman,” he said.
He said the ego of the team management was responsible for the defeat of Pakistan against Bangladesh after 16 years.
He said that there was no need of Saad Naseem and that an all-rounder should be included in the team.
Jalal said that lack of a good bowler and Ajmal’s poor bowling allowed Bangladesh to pile up such a big total. “It is always difficult for Pakistan to chase a target of more than 300 runs,” he said.
Jalal hoped that in the next matches the management would not repeat the mistakes and form a balanced combination.
