The old familiar faces

July 11, 2018

If we examine the list of prospective candidates for Election 2018, it becomes amply clear that the same old names are featured on the lists. These candidates did little to bring significant improvements to the education, healthcare and power sectors during their respective tenure. Owing to the incompetence of the previous governments, the caretaker government was compelled to increase gas rates by 300 percent for domestic sector and 30 percent for commercial and industrial sectors. If the past performance during a candidate’s previous tenure of parliament were a key criterion for voting, none of these old faces vying for seats in the new parliament would be deemed fit enough to assume public office. However, I have an open proposal for these prospective parliamentarians and the so-called servants of the people to buy my vote. I am ready to give them foolproof guarantee that my vote would be cast in their favour provided they deposit 30 percent of their declared assets in the national exchequer. This deposit should be used to partly offset the massive increase in gas rates.
