The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Annual Examinations, 2015 would start from Tuesday (today) at 413 designated centres.
According to Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) spokesman Noman Ahsan, 117 centres located mainly in Lyari, Landhi, Orangi Town, Korangi, Baldia Town, Gadap and Bin Qasim were declared ‘sensitive’ and the Sindh government was requested to deploy law enforcement agencies’ personnel outside the centres.
The school principals would act as senior superintendents while 34 mobile vigilance teams would ensure the exams were conducted in fair and transparent manner.
A total of 278,110 candidates registered for the Science Group (IX and X) of which 151,457 were boys and 128,653 girls, whereas 12,547 candidates, 9,847 boys and 3,060 girls, registered for the General Group (IX and X).
Number of those appearing for the papers privately stood at 14,527 out of which 10,634 were boys and 3,893 were girls.
The examinations would end on April 21.
Local authorities have been working on new methods to curb the rampant cheating culture, but their efficacy remains in question.
