LONDON: English county Worcestershire on Saturday announced the signing of Sri Lanka spin bowler Sachithra Senanayake to provide early-season cover for overseas player Saeed Ajmal.
Ajmal has been called up by Pakistan for their tour of Bangladesh, prompting Worcestershire to move for Senanayake, who has played in one Test, 45 one-day internationals and 17 Twenty20 games for his country.
“He has played a lot of games in the shorter formats for Sri Lanka, not a lot of the Test matches, but his first-class record is excellent,” director of cricket Steve Rhodes said on the Worcestershire website.
“He has got a really good ratio of five-wicket hauls and, when you are looking at replacing a strike bowler like Saeed, you need someone who can take wickets — and he is proven at that.”
