SIALKOT: Nomination papers of former MPA Ch Muhammad Akhlaq, a candidate of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) for a Punjab constituency, PP-36 (Sialkot-II), were rejected while nomination papers of former federal minister Kh Muhammad Asif of the PML-N and Muhammad Usman Dar of the PTI were approved on Monday.

The rejection of Akhlaq’s papers by Returning Officer Haris Ali is a setback for the PTI as the constituency mostly comprises of Sialkot city and Cantonment area. Akhlaq, who has recently quit the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and joined the PTI, was considered for a PTI ticket instead of Umer Farooq Meyer, a founding member of the PTI, who was narrowly defeated in the 2013 general elections. It is told that dual nationality was the main cause of rejection of Akhlaq’s nomination papers. In 2012, Akhlaq of the PML-N was de-seated as the MPA by a court for having dual nationality. It is most likely that now Umer Farooq Meyer will be the likely candidate of the PTI in PP-36. Meanwhile, nomination papers of former federal minister Kh Muhammad Asif of the PML-N and Muhammad Usman Dar of the PTI for NA-73 were approved by the returning officer.

MAN MURDERED: A man was murdered while two others were injured over a cable dispute in Pasrur Sadr police limits on Sunday. The injured people were rushed to a local hospital where Rana Asad died. The police have registered a case against the accused and started investigation.

MAN COMMITS SUICIDE: An old man committed suicide at Bholuwala village in Head Marala police limits on Monday. Muhammad Hayat (70), a resident of a village in the limits of Kotli Loharan police, ended his life by hanging himself with a tree over domestic problems.

TWO HELD: Head Marala police arrested two people on the charge of doing wheelie. Those arrested are Rehan and Farhan. The police also impounded their motorcycles. The police have registered separate cases against them.
