Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar paid a visit to Edhi Centre on third day of Eid-ul-Fitr where he met with children and gave them sweets and gifts.

Bilquis Edhi, Faisal Edhi and other members of Edhi Centre were also present on this occasion. The mayor, while meeting with children, said that we should not forget those who are helpless on our happy occasions.

He said Edhi Foundation helped 98 per cent of such people who were suffering from diseases or having difficulties, and their work spread all over the world. “We celebrate Eid with our family. I thought let us celebrate this Eid with children at Edhi Centre.”

He said he felt much pleasure at being here and appealed to all Pakistanis to support Edhi Foundation in its human welfare works. The mayor also talked with Faisal Edhi and Bilquis Edhi about their works. Faisal Ehdi, chairman of Edhi Foundation, said the mayor was the only public personality who visited Edhi Centre on Eid-ul-Fitr and this was pleasure for them and the children there. Expressing grief over the death of two young men who drowned off Sandspit beach on second day of Eid, the mayor said it was the duty of the government to impose Section 144 at the beach and depute police for the implementation of this rule; however, police were not there to stop such an unfortunate incident. He said 32 lifeguards were on duty in the KMC remit whereas the place where this incident took place was an area of Manora Cantonment Board.
