Rawalpindi : There seems to be no end to the miseries of the people living around Liaquat Bagh as Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and Albayrak are continuously dumping garbage near it. They have demanded of higher authorities to immediately remove garbage transfer station otherwise they will come on roads in protest.
The people living near Liaquat Bagh, China Market, Gawalmandi, Arya Mohallah, Moti Mahal, Raheemabad, Nadeem Colony, Mareer Chowk, Tipu Road, Raja Bazaar, Chamanzar and several other localities have been suffering because of the foul smell emanating from it round the clock. It is not only creating problems for the residents, but also affecting users of Murree Road, Mareer Hassan Road, Kutchery Road and GT Road, as garbage is shifted through these roads from evening till late night.
Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) Managing Director Rizwan Sherdil told ‘The News’ that they could not shift garbage transfer station from Liaquat Bagh because they did not have any alternative place. “We are obeying the orders of higher authorities in this regard,” he said.
He said that their dumpers continuously lift garbage from different areas to shift it to transfer station near Liaquat Bagh and later shift them to ‘Losar’. The staffers of near government offices included WASA, PHA, Rescue 15, NCA, RDA etc. have also appealed to higher authorities to immediately remove garbage transfer station.
