A target killer said to be a member of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) was remanded to the police for 14 days. He was arrested on March 30 following a police encounter.
According to the police, accused Bilal Qureshi alias Chingari was involved in sectarian violence and had killed around 28 people; cases against him were lodged in the Bilal Colony police station.
He was also facing charges of killing a policeman, possession of illegal weapons, explosive materials and attempted murder.
Two jailed for 31 years
An anti-terrorism court awarded 31 years’ imprisonment each two men found guilty of an armed altercation with the police, attempted murder, damage to government properties and possession of illegal arms.
The convicts had been arrested in January last year from a restaurant by the Preedy police which lodged a case against them on behalf of the state.
Two unlicensed pistols had also been recovered from the possession of Muhammad Hassan and Umair.
The anti-terrorism court found the men guilty on Tuesday and awarded them 31 years’ imprisonment each. It also imposed a fine of Rs150,000 each on both the men, and in case they failed to pay it they would have to serve an additional jail term of four months.
Extortionist remanded
An anti- terrorism court (ATC) sent an alleged extortionist, Raees,to the central jail on a seven-day judicial.
The accused had received extortion money from people within the jurisdiction of the Napier police station and was said to be a co-accused along with notorious extortionist Waseem Beater in a case already under trial.
Man acquitted
The ATC acquitted, Nasir, alleged to have been in possession of explosive materials at the time of his arrest. A case against him was lodged in the Risala police station; however the prosecution could not present any evidence against the accused.
