Census result being tabled in CCI meeting today

ISLAMABAD: The final census results for 2017, going to be presented before Council of Common Interest (CCI) in its scheduled meeting under chairmanship of PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Sunday (today) show that the country’s total population stands at 207.68 million compared to provisional results of 207.77 million, indicating slight decrease of 0.033 percent.

Federal Secretary Statistics Division Rukhsana Yasmeen confirmed to The News on Saturday that the final census result of 2017 was part of CCI agenda scheduled to be held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister on Sunday (today). When asked to comment on abandoning of 5 percent validation exercise of census, she said that the CCI might take up this issue as well in Sunday’s meeting then they would be in better position to explain it before the media.

However, official final results of Census 2017 available with The News disclosed that Pakistan’s population growth was standing at 2.4 percent per annum as total population increased to 207.68 million in accordance with latest final census result of 2017 against 132.35 million in 1998 census.

Out of total 207.68 million population, the male population stands at 106.3 million, female 101.3 million and transgender at 21700 in all over the country.

Alarmingly, the country’s federal capital known as Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has witnessed highest growth rate standing at 4.9 percent with population in 2017 reaching at 2,003,168 against 805,235 in 1998 census.

Balochistan stands at second highest in terms of population growth as the province touched growth rate of 3.37 percent whereby its population increased to 12,355,129 in final results of 2017 census compared to 6,565,885 in 1998 census.

Sindh’s population stands at 47,854,510 in population census 2017 against 30,439,893 in 1998 census indicating that the province achieved growth of 2.41 percent during comparable period.

Punjab has achieved annual growth of 2.13 percent as its population increased to 109,989, 655 in accordance with final census results of 2017 against 73,621,290 in 1998 census.

In Fata, the census results 2017 shows that the population stands at 4,993,044 compared to 3,176,331 in 1998 census, registering a growth rate of 2.40 percent.

The population in KP has gone up to 30,508,920 in accordance with final census results for 2017 against 17,743,645 in 1998 census, indicating a growth rate in population of 2.89 percent.

In overall Pakistan, total population in final results of 2017 shows that it stands at 207,684, 626 compared to 132,352, 279 in 1998 census, registering a growth rate in population of 2.40 percent in both comparable periods.

Punjab’s share in overall population of the country reduced significantly as it slashed down from 55.63 percent in 1998 census to 52.96 percent in 2017 final census results. Balochistan’s share in overall population of the country has increased from 4.96 percent in 1998 to 5.94 percent in 2017 census. The KP’s share in overall population has slightly increased as it went up from 13.41 percent in 1998 to 14.69 percent in 2017 census.

Sindh’s share went up from 23 percent in 1998 census to 23.04 percent in 2017 census. Fata’s share in overall population of the country remained stagnant and unchanged at 2.40 percent in both 1998 and 2017 census results.

The average household size in Pakistan stands at 6.39 in 2017 census against 6.8 in 1998. The largest household size was in Fata which stands at 8.60 in 2017 against 9.3 in 1998.

The household size in KP stands at 7.83, Punjab 6.38, Sindh 5.55, Balochistan 6.87 and ICT 5.86 in 2017 census results.

There are total 1,079, 788 households where residing number of people was 15 plus in accordance with census results 2017. There are 290,013 households where household size stands at 14 people, 381,640 households having size of households’ stands at 13 people, 12 people in 512, 983 households, 11 people in 647, 405 households and 10 people in 1,676, 511 households.

There are total 701,884 households where size stands at one person and 2,332, 258 households where size of household is only 2 person residing in it.
