UAE enhancing people-to-people contacts

Islamabad : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is observing it founder Sheikh Zayed’s year and its embassy hosted Iftar-dinner where elite of the twin-cities and diplomats turned up in impressive numbers.

The UAE Ambassador Hamad Obaid Alzaabi has activated his country’s mission and enhanced its people-to-people contact manifold. Mayor Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz, Dr. Shoaib Sadal, renowned religious scholar, Alama Tahir Ashrafi, ambassadors of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) were among the distinguished guests. The guests had candid discussion about the political developments taking place in Pakistan.

The queries were mostly about the fate of cases against Nawaz Sharif and who will be caretaker prime minister. An ambassador of important GCC country raised the question that would it be possible for authorities in Pakistan to hold the elections in accordance with the timeframe.

Ambassador Hamad Obaid Alzaabi briefed the guests about the festivities of Ramazan in the UAE and told the guests that Muslims perform fasting with special arrangements and the government facilitates them generously in this regard. Some guests discussed the role of Iran who according to them is instrumental in destabilising efforts in the region.

Ambassador Hamad Alzaabi is among the youngest envoys posted in Islamabad and has earned esteem in the relevant circles in a short span of time.

He said that UAE attaches great importance to it brotherly ties with Pakistan. The high echelon visits from the two sides are playing significant role in enhancing the relationship of two brotherly countries, he added.
