Install desalination plant to meet Clifton, DHA water shortage: Murad

KARACHI: Sindh’s chief minister has ordered relevant officials to work on the suggestion of installing a desalination plant on Karachi’s shoreline to treat sea water for meeting the severe water shortage in the Clifton and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighbourhoods.

The suggestion was presented during a meeting at the CM House on Saturday, where a delegation of representatives of the Defence Society Residents Association (DSRA) met provincial chief executive Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The delegation was led by Sharfuddin Memon, former chief of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee.

Murtaza Wahab, former senator of the Pakistan Peoples Party, who was also present on the occasion, made the suggestion that the issue of water shortage in Clifton and DHA can be met by installing a sea water desalination plant on the nearby shoreline.

CM Shah welcomed the suggestion, and ordered the relevant officials that the provincial government and the DHA should work together on the plan to install a desalination plant on the shoreline near the two neighbourhoods.

He said he himself is a DHA resident, as well as an honorary member of the DSRA. “It is my wish that the issues of Defence and Clifton residents be resolved through working with the DHA.”

The CM said residents’ societies such as the DHA have been playing an important role in the provision of the best and modern civic and municipal facilities to the people of the metropolis, as the city’s infrastructure is being developed.

He said residents’ societies such as the DHA have always been the centre of attraction for the city’s people due to its superior living standards.

The delegation members thanked the chief executive and his Sindh government for the construction of the flyover on Sunset Boulevard and the underpass at the Submarine Road intersection in their neighbourhood.

They said construction of similar civic infrastructure will always be helpful in overcoming the issue of congestion of vehicular traffic in the Clifton and DHA localities.

Pakistan Sunni Tehreek chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri also called on Shah at the CM House, where they discussed civic issues of the metropolis and other problems being faced by the city’s people.

Qadri appreciated the commitment and hard work demonstrated by the chief executive and his provincial administration in carrying out development works on a massive level across Sindh in general and across Karachi in particular.
