NAB dismisses case against Sethi

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has dismissed corruption charges against Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi declaring the charges NFA (Not Fit for Action).

The verdict by NAB Lahore dated May 14 stated that the investigation revealed nothing untoward and the allegations were without foundation.The allegations were levelled by former Test cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz.

The PCB has initiated legal proceedings against Sarfaraz and he has been barred from making any comment against Chairman PCB. Sethi has filed defamation suits before the Learned Civil Courts which issued restraining orders against Sarfaraz Nawaz.

Sarfaraz, in sheer disregard of law and the Learned Courts, continued his hate speech whereupon various contempt applications were filed and are pending against him. Sarfaraz has been facing multiple civil suits in Lahore District Court and has also been issued gag orders by PEMRA.

Sethi filed a civil suit along with the Stay Application before the District Court Lahore on 16-03-2015 against Sarfaraz Nawaz for recovery of Rs100 million as damages under the Defamation Ordinance, 2002.

Sethi also filed supra referred Suit against the Defendant for levelling false allegations, before the District Court Lahore on 05-06-2015 under the Defamation Ordinance, 2002, for recovery of Rs100 million as damages and permanent injunction along with other prayers.

The Learned Court vide Order dated 19-06-2015 restrained Sarfaraz Nawaz from levelling false, malicious and defamatory allegations against the plaintiff in electronic and print media. Even after being in knowledge of the Stay Oder issued against him, Sarfaraz continued his vitriol against Sethi.

The plaintiff filed a Contempt Application against the Respondent for violating the Order of Learned Additional District Judge, Lahore, dated 19-06-2015. Sarfaraz continued to make statements against Sethi after which the Legal Advisor of PCB requested PEMRA to warn TV channels to stop giving air time to Sarfaraz.
