S Africa women smash BD to sweep T20 series
CAPE TOWN: South Africa women put in another professional performance in a rain-affected third T20I to sweep the series 3-0 against Bangladesh women at Manguang Oval, Bloemfontein on Sunday.
After rain reduced the game to a nine-over shootout, South Africa were inserted in after losing the toss. Opener Tazmin Brits set the tone with a quick cameo of 29 off 22 balls as the hosts made 64 in their allotted overs. Needing 65 to avoid a whitewash, the visitors were never in the chase as medium pacer Ayobanga Khaka took three wickets in her two overs to practically finish the match. Eventually, Bangladesh finished on 41 for 6, losing by 23 runs.
By winning the T20I series 3-0, South Africa did the double over Bangladesh as earlier they had won the ODI series 5-0. For the visitors it was a tour to forget as they offered no competition in both formats to go down easily. “Congratulations to the Proteas on another fine performance,” commented CSA Acting Chief Executive Thabang Moroe. “To win eight matches in a row at this level is a wonderful performance. “Special congratulations are due to the new caps who have settled in very nicely. This is a good sign of the ever-growing depth in our women’s national squad.
