RAWALPINDI: As many as 39 Union Councils’ teams of Rawalpindi are taking part in the 5th Shahbaz Sharif T20 Ramazan Cup Floodlight Tournament 2018 (Inter-UCs event) under way in Rawalpindi.
The opening ceremony of the tournament was held at the cricket ground of Government Degree College in Satellite Town.
Punjab Sports Board Steering Committee Chairman Hanif Abbasi and Mayor Rawalpindi Sardar Muhammad Nasim formally inaugurated the tournament. Tournament Director Masood Anwar presented the brief history of the tournament.
The teams have been divided into eight groups and one team from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals. The event will be played on league basis. A total of 83 matches will be played in the tournament.
Speaking on the occasion, Hanif Abbasi said the event was arranged on a self-help basis as there were no expenditures given by the government.
The event carries a cash purse of Rs300,000 for the winning team. The runners-up will get Rs200,000.
Besides Rs3000 will be given to the Man of the Match of each match played during the tournament.
Cash prizes are also there for the Best Bowler, Best Batsman and Best All-rounder. He also appreciated the efforts of committee comprising Masood Anwar, Tauqeer Shah, Sanober Gul, Babar Shah and Malik Sohail Awan. “As many as 70 floodlit cricket grounds are being constructed which will be completed soon.”
