HARARE: Zimbabwe Cricket on Thursday named Lalchand Rajput as the interim head coach after former fast bowler Heath Streak was sacked from the position in March earlier this year.

“The 56-year-old is expected to start work immediately ahead of the triangular Twenty20 international (T20I) series involving Zimbabwe, Australia and Pakistan in Harare in July,” said a press release from Zimbabwe Cricket.

It is understood that the announcement from ZC has come even before a formal contract has been signed by Rajput.Additionally, the aforementioned tri-series is currently in doubt, with players demanding that ZC give a time-frame for when they will be paid their salaries.

Zimbabwe’s players have not been paid their salaries for the past two months, while the national players are owed match fees dating back to July last year. They were due to meet with ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani on the issue on Wednesday.
