Wapda workers observe Safety Day
LAHORE: Around 150 electricity workers died in different incidents while performing their duties and thousands of Wapda workers became disabled in 17 months, said a trade union representatives in a conference held to observe Safety Day on Tuesday at Bakhtiar Labour Hall.
Hundreds of trade union representatives including Khurshid Ahmed, General Secretary, Haji Younas, Rana Abdul Shakoor, Osama Tariq, Muzaffar Mateen, Ch Maqsood Ahmed, Naveed Dogar and others attended the conference. They said incidents happened because the Wapda employees were not given safety equipment. The trade union leaders demanded decent and reasonable compensations for the families of the workers who died during their duties. Muhammad Nasir, Lesco Chief Engineer and Tufail Sheikh, Lesco Director Safety, were present on the occasion.
