KARACHI: Leisure Leagues Schools and Academies Under-16 Football Championship exploded into action with an exhibition match between 16-Star Academy and Anglophile Public School here at 16-Star Football Ground the other day.
Hosts 16-Star Academy won the match 1-0, with Mohammad Rafay scoring the only goal of the match.Shamsuddin, Deputy Director Education Karachi, said that all schools that come under Sindh government would participate in the Leisure Leagues event.
He praised Trunkwala Family for making efforts to revive school football in the country and promised his full support.He claimed that Sindh government had been working diligently to promote sports.
According to Leisure Leagues Area Manager Riaz Ahmed, several leagues will be organised throughout the province after Ramazan. He added that later these events would be extended to other provinces.
According to Riaz, at least 16 teams will be seen in action during the league at a single venue. Each player can register for a nominal monthly fee of Rs100. Each player will get an opportunity to player four weekly matches.
He added that extraordinary performance in the championship could help players participate in Leisure Leagues National Championship and get selected even for Leisure Leagues World Cup squad.
Riaz further said these championships would provide a chance to players to find career in football not only as players but also as match coordinators, referees and match supervisors for Leisure Leagues. Riaz invited colleges and universities to register their male and female teams for these events.
