Transgenders demand reserved seats in parliament

LAHORE: It is a great achievement that the government has accepted our existence. Now transgenders will take part in elections and will do jobs in government departments, said members of Khawaja Sara Welfare Board in a press conference held at Lahore Press Club (LPC) on Monday.

They praised the government for passing bill for the welfare of transgenders. We should be given equal status as enjoy other people in society. The bill passed for transgender be implanted 100 per cent, demanded Khawaja Sara Welfare Board’s members Nayab Ali, Shahzadi Rai, Sonia Khan, Moon Ali, Zara Changezi, Zharish Khan and others.

They demanded reserved seats/quota for transgenders in parliament and said discrimination from society must come to an end now. Transgenders are struggling for their rights, said Neeli Rana, president Khawaja Sara Society. According to her, transgenders will get their share in inheritance according to the new law. “Transgenders are more than dancers and singers. We should be treated with dignity. We deserve love and attention”, Neeli said.
