PESHAWAR: Speakers at an academic session underlined the role of mothers in educating and grooming children, saying that would make them productive citizens to the greater good of the society.

They were speaking at the monthly session of the Shoora-e-Hamdard in the Peshawar Services Club. The Hamdard Foundation Pakistan had arranged the programme which was titled, “The role of mothers in the building the society”.

A noted cultural activist and Shoor-e-Hamdard Speaker, Dr Salahuddin, presided over the session.

Ms Shamamatul Ambar, a businessman woman and former president of the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was the guest speaker.

She talked at length on the importance of the family unit and the basic role of the mother in the upbringing of the children. Her speech was based on the Islamic teachings.

Shamamatul Ambar said nobody could deny the importance of the role of the mother in building the society. “The greatness of mother and her sacrifices cannot be ignored by any one,” she said while elaborating on the topic.

The guest speaker said as far as our social and religious spheres were concerned, a child embodied the nature and habits of his/her mother.

Shamamatul Ambar said a mother was primarily supposed to be head and caretaker of the home. She said a saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that “Paradise is under the feet of mother” clearly gave a role to the mother which could not be forgotten.

She said mothers should equip children with values that make them a productive citizen of the society. A senior Saraiki poet, Sardar Farooq Ahmad Jan Babar, Pashto writer, Roshan Khattak, Hindko writer Faridullah Qureshi, health expert Professor Dr Nasiruddin Azam Khan, Jawad Ahmad, Ghazala Yousaf and Mushtaq Hussain Bukhari expressed views as well.
