CM approves 1,067 dengue workers appointment

LAHORE
PROVINCIAL Adviser Health Khawaja Sulman Rafique has said that stringent measures had been adopted to implement larvae detection activities in Rawalpindi with the joint efforts of District Government and Health Department. Special responsibilities had been entrusted to all the government departments and organisations for indoor and outdoor larvae surveillance so that any untoward situation could be averted by adopting timely preventive actions.
He said this while presiding over a meeting to review anti-dengue activities in Rawalpindi. Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Zahid Saeed, DCO Sajad Zafar Dall, Additional Director General Health Dr. Islam Zafar, and officers of government departments attended the meeting, according to a handout issued on Thursday.
In a detailed presentation, Additional DG Health briefed about the responsibilities assigned to different departments with regard to controlling dengue prior to its eruption as an epidemic. He said it was an obligation of all the departments and general public to keep a vigilant eye on larvae and make all-out effort to control it. Provincial Adviser Health informed the media that Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif had given an approval for appointing 1,067 dengue workers in Rawalpindi. He also inquired about the stocking of necessary medicines and insecticides with the health authorities and provision of medical treatment facilities in the local teaching hospitals. He said that General Medical Practitioners might also be included in the training programmes and a liaison should be maintained with doctors working in private sector so that they could refer dengue patients to the nearest teaching hospitals.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed said the government departments and representatives of allied organisations were well aware of the responsibilities and they had worked very efficiently in the previous anti-dengue campaign. He said the departments had been given tasks to work with a close coordination to eliminate larvae. EDO Health Dr. Khalid Randhawa elaborated the Polio Action Plan and highlighted the prevailing situation with regard to larvae identification.
