People flock to parks as rain brings mercury down

LAHORE: Moderate but scattered rain was witnessed in the city here Sunday bringing down the rising temperature and tempting the citizens to come out of their homes to enjoy the weather outdoor.

The rain, which hit the city early morning, continued till noon at scattered places at different times. The rain and cloudy weather turned on the moods of heat-stricken citizens and a lot of them reached public parks with their families and friends to enjoy the holiday. Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore Zoo, Safari Park, Jallo Park, Racecourse Park, Lahore Fort, Minar-e-Pakistan, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park and Model Town Park were some of the most visited destinations on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Met officials said a westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and likely to persist till Tuesday. They predicted that rain-thundershower with

gusty winds is expected at isolated places in upper KP, FATA, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha divisions) Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Dust-thunderstorm-rain is also expected at a few places in DI Khan, Bannu, Multan, DG Khan, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions. Rainfall was recorded at several cities, including Toba Tek Singh 17mm, Noorpur Thal 15mm, Sargodha (A/P 15mm, City 12mm), Jhelum 09mm, Islamabad (ZP 07mm, Bokra, Golrha 02mm, Saidpur 01mm), Kasur 05mm, Joharabad, Bhakkar, Okara 03mm, Sialkot (Cantt 03mm, A/P 01mm), Faisalabad, Jhang, Mangla 02mm, Lahore (A/P 02mm, PBO 01mm), Rawalpindi (Chaklala 02mm, Shamsabad 01mm), Gujranwala, Gujrat, Layyah,Mandi Bahauddin 01mm, Malam Jabba 12mm, Kohat 05mm, Kalam 02mm, Peshawar (A/P 02mm, City 01mm), Saidu Sharif, Drosh 01mm, Astore 01mm and Zhob 02mm.

Sunday's maximum temperature was recorded at Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur and Dadu where mercury reached 47°C while in Lahore, maximum temperature came down to 31°C, minimum was 21.8°C and humidity in the air was 45 percent.
