CW Games contingent to be invited to PM Secretariat
KARACHI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will give a reception on May 10 at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in Islamabad in honour of the national contingent which took part in the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Sources told ‘The News’ that the PM would give cash awards to the medal winners in the quadrennial event.Pakistan’s premier wrestler Mohammad Inam (86kg) claimed gold, while wrestlers Mohammad Bilal (57kg) and Tayyab Reza (125kg) captured bronze medals.
Weightlifters Nooh Dastagir Butt (+105kg) and Talha Talib (62kg) also claimed bronze medals. Interestingly, the whole contingent has been invited which will enable the participants to share their problems with the PM.
All the players and officials who were part of the Australian event have been asked to come to the Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on May 9. The next day they will proceed to the PM Secretariat.
The sources said that as Pakistan pulled off some medals in individual sports in Australia the federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Pirzada will request the PM to back such disciplines so that they could further improve.
Inam will receive a decent purse of Rs5 million for winning gold.Inam received the same amount when he clinched gold in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.The bronze medalists will get richer by Rs1 million each as per policy.
