Special campaign under way to treat Leshminiasis in Mohmand
PESHAWAR: The second dose campaign for treatment of Leshminiasis is underway in designated health outlets in Mohmand Agency.
According to officials in Ghallanai, headquarters of Mohmand Agency, they had just 50 (5 cc) injections available for treatment of Leshminiasis to control the epidemic. They said that as only the World Health Organization (WHO) provides Glutamine injections, which are required to treat patients, Mohmand Agency’s new Political Agent Wasif Saeed sensing the urgency of the situation made contact with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Secretary Health, Abid Majeed, to provide some injections out of the stock.
The officials said Secretary Health readily agreed to loan out 100 voils on emergency basis for patients in Mohmand Agency.
According to the officials, 300 bed nets were also dispatched to Mohmand Agency and some have already been distributed to the affected individuals.
The political administration has geared up efforts to cope with the situation. A special emergency campaign was launched in Mohmand Agency on April 15 as 404 patients suffering from Leshminiasis were registered and treated in various health facilities designated for the purpose.
