PESHAWAR: The members of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) held a protest at the Peshawar Press Club here on Sunday against the arrest of their leaders in Lahore.

The protesters were holding placards inscribed with slogans. They rejected the Lahore administration’s action to foil the PTM’s rally. They said harassment of Pakhtuns was not acceptable.

The speakers said holding peaceful protest for the acceptance of genuine demands was constitutional right of all the citizens and depriving anybody of raising voice was violation of human rights.

They criticised the Punjab police for arresting of PTM leaders and foiling of its peaceful protest.

The speakers said those at the helm of affairs should listen to the legal demands of the PTM instead of sabotaging its peaceful protest and staging counter-rallies through allegedly paid participants.

They warned of launching country-wide protest movement if the PTM was not allowed to hold peaceful public meetings and its genuine demands were not paid serious attention.

MINGORA: The activists of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement staged a protest rally against Punjab police for arresting the movement leaders and workers.

The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Punjab police.

Addressing the protesters, Dr Said Alam Mehsud said that the PTM leaders’ arrest was an unlawful act.

He asked the government to provide security to the activists of the PTM and demanded action against the officials for harassing the peaceful activists.

The protesters dispersed peacefully. Protest rallies were also staged in other district in support of the PTM.
